Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire (February 27, 2010 until Toronto ON). Pointe Claire is a small town situated on the West Island, which is part of the Montreal island. This West Island, to those who have never heard of it, is a large region that runs from Lachine to the west. Amanda Brugel was born there and her time in the city wasn't long. Brugel lived in Courtice located just outside of Oshawa. She aspired to be a professional dancer, but due to an explosive growth spurt she outgrew the dance partners she had. In an interview with the Toronto Star, she confessed that "In heels I'm 6 feet, 1 inch." After I surpassed my male counterparts, that's when I gave up. A lot of former dancers go on to act. In Brugel's case it was the guidance of her drama teacher at high school that led her to take the step she required. Her teacher invited her to take part in an audition in her school's production. The teacher who suggested that she go after a role in the school's annual show. Following her award of the Fine Arts Talent Scholarship, she attended York University and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in the year 2000. In the 20+ years since, Brugel has been offered roles in over 60 shows on small and big screens. She attracted the most interest when she was offered the part as Rita in the award-winning show The Handmaid's Tale (pictured below). Brugel appeared only on rare moments in the very first season of the series The Handmaid's tale. The only Canadian actor.
